Ringing In 2021 At Home

Monday, December 28, 2020

Just like everything else this year, New Years Eve celebrations will be a little different for most of us. Since Nick and I began dating, our New Years Eve tradition was to attend a large gala type party. We would get dressed up and head out of the city to meet his family and friends at a venue close to his childhood home. There was a cocktail hour, sitdown dinner, and an open bar. The best part though, was the DJ who would play all the best songs so we could dance the night away. Boy do I wish we could have another evening like that! Unfortunately, this tradition will need to be put on hold.

This year we'll be having a low key evening with one of my best friends and her boyfriend at her apartment. We plan on playing some of our favorite board games, drinking wine and cocktails, and ordering pizza. While it's not our normal celebration, we plan on making the best of it and having a great evening.

While some people choose to spend NYE at home every year, (and if you do, please let me know some fun things you do to spend the holiday), I thought it would be fun to put together a list of ideas for a fun at home New Years Eve celebration.

Game Night- If you are able to celebrate with a few close friends (safely), have yourself a game night. Have everyone choose 1-2 favorite games and play all night long. Bring snacks, order food, and maybe even make a specality cocktail. Below I linked some of my favorite games that you can order to have in time for the big night.

Monopoly Deal                        Telestrations                      Catch Phrase                 Five Crowns

**All of the games linked showed that they can arrive before NYE for my zip code. If they aren't available for your location. Try stores such as Target (offers in store pick up), Wal-Mart, or TJ Maxx (when I went yesterday, they had a TON of game options) **

Wine Tasting Night- If you are able to do this with a few friends (again, saftely). Have everyone bring over a bottle or two of their favorite wine. Spend the night tasting each others favorites and scoring them. Kick it up a notch with a charcuterie board to snack on while your sipping...you'll be doing yourself and your hangover a favor.

Make the night more festive with a decoration kit              Print a downloadable scorecard to keep score

Food Making Night- Take this idea and let your creativity fly! There are at home kits you can order such as a Sushi Making Kit , Soup Dumpling Making Kit or  Pasta Making Kit that all can arrive by NYE.

If you don't want to order a kit, have yourself a DIY pizza night. Buy premade dough at the grocery store, along with sauce and cheese. Grab your favorite toppings and create the perfect pizza.

Movie Night (with all the snacks)- choose some of your favorite movies to watch all night long. Load up on all the movie theatre snacks like popcorn, candy, nachos and soda and let the movie binge night begin! If your having a movie night with someone else, make it a movie and fondue night! This fondue set can be delivered before the 31st.

Zoom Trivia Night- If you're unable to celebrate with friends near or far, host a Zoom Trivia night. Over this past year, one of Nick's close friends has set this up several times, and we've all had such a great time. Come up with catagories such as Music, geography, pop culture in different eras, or get creative and think of your own. Within each catagory think of several questions to quiz your friends. Send your friends a Zoom request and let Trivia night begin. Read your questions and have your friends write down what they believe are the answers . At the end of each round have them send in their answers and keep score. At the end of the night, tally up the scores, and announce the winner. Have everyone make themselves some cocktails while they play, and let the fun times begin! This is such a great way to feel like you're with your crew, even when you're not.

Spa Night- Head to Sephora or your local drugstore and stock up on facemasks, oils, bath salts, and lotions. Make sure to also grab some wine and a great candle. Spend the last night of the year pampering yourself, because we all deserve to be pampered this year!

Whatever you choose to do this NYE, I hope you enjoy it! On that note, peace out 2020, we are ready for ya 2021!
